Maash dal is one of my favourites! A Pakistani lentil dish that I just can’t get enough of. AND I just perfected a recipe which only takes 15 minutes in my Instant Pot!!!! HAPPY DAYS 🙌🏼
Best served with Paratha, roti or naan! 🫓

Ingredients
1/3 cup Oil or ghee
1 cup Urid lentils (washed and soaked for 30 minutes)
1 Brown onion (medium), finely chopped
1 Tomato, finely chopped
5 Garlic gloves, minced
1cm piece Ginger, finely grated
1 tsp Cumin Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Salt, or to taste
2 Whole cloves (optional)
1/2 Lemon, juiced
1 Green chilli, finely sliced (optional)
Fresh Coriander, finely chopped

Tadka (optional)
1 small onion, finely sliced
1 Dried red chilli

Method –
Step 1 – Turn your Instant pot on and set to saute, add the oil, once hot, add the onions, tomatoes, garlic and ginger. Sauté until the oil starts to separate (a few minutes).
Now add all the dry spices and sauté for a further 1 minute. Now add the Urid lentils and 1 cup of waters. Mix well.

Step 2 – Cancel sauté and set to pressure on high for 2 minutes. Close the lid and seal. Once done, release the pressure by opening the vent.

Step 3 – Cancel pressure and set to sauté, sautés for a few minutes until there is not longer any water. Turn off the Instant pot.
Top with fresh coriander, chillies and squeeze over the lemon juice.

Step 4 (optional) – for the tadka, in a small pan, on medium heat, add a 3 tbsp oil,once hot add the sliced onions and dried chillies. Fry until the onion have browned. Pour over the dal! Enjoy!
