Cauliflower Manchurian 🥢

Crispy fried cauliflower bites coated in a sticky sweet and spicy sauce. 🌶
This is a Pak/Indo Chinese recipe. If you’ve ever been to a Chinese restaurant in Pakistan or India, Manchurian is always on the menu! 🌶 recipe below!

Ingredients – serves 4
Crispy cauliflower:
1 Medium Cauliflower, cut into small pieces
1 cup Plain flour
1 cup Corn flour
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Ground black pepper
1/2 tsp Garlic powder/granules
1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
1 – 1/2 cups of Water
Oil for frying

For the sauce:
1 tbsp Vegetable oil
1 Small Red onion, diced
4 Garlic cloves, minced/grated
1/4 cup Soy sauce
2 tbsp Tomato ketchup
1 tbsp Chilli sauce (smooth)
2 tbsp Dark brown sugar
2-3 Spring onions, green part only, and cut into 1 inch pieces.
Green chillies, finely sliced (optional)
Fresh coriander, finely chopped

Method
Step 1 – Bring a pot of water to boil. Add the cauliflower, boil for 4 minutes. Drain and set aside to cool.
Step 2 – In a bowl, add the corn flour, plain flour, the dry seasonings. Slowly add the water, whilst whisking, until you reach a thick enough batter to coat the cauliflower florets.
Step 3 – In a large pan, on high heat, add oil for deep frying. Once hot, add the battered cauliflower, leaving some between them. Fry in batches, until crispy! 5-6 minutes. Remove and place on a plate with paper towels.
Step 4 – The sauce. In another large pan, on medium heat, add the oil. Once hot, add the onion, cook until they have softened. Now add the garlic, sauté till fragrant. Add the ketchup, soy sauce, chilli sauce, and sugar, stir. It should start to thicken. Now add the battered cauliflower and coat well. Next add the spring onions and give it another stir. Top with Fresh coriander and green chillies! Enjoy with noodles or rice!!!
